The Bodrum Peninsula lies at the south-west corner of Turkey and has many tranquil bays, beaches and villages surrounded by the turquoise Mediterranean Sea.
One of the unique features of Bodrum is the rich combination of recreational activities during a day, and the unequalled Bodrum nightlife. No other area on the Turkish Aegean provides the visitor the opportunity to experience traditional Turkish life only a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of a modern resort.
With no doubt the Bodrum Peninsula has some of Turkish most beautiful towns. The future of Bodrum’s charm and character is secured by strict building code, allowing a maximum 2 storey buildings, either in white or in natural stone. The result is a unique and charming coastal area that you won’t see at conventional charter destinations in Turkey.
The unique and charming appearance of Bodrum Peninsula has made it the favourite holiday resort for Turkish citizens. For that reason the Bodrum Peninsula is known as the Saint-Tropez of Turkey.
Yalikavak lies at the north-west corner of the Bodrum Peninsula, 17 km or 10 miles from Bodrum. With approximately 7000 permanent residents, Yalikavak is one of the largest towns on the Bodrum Peninsula after the city of Bodrum.
Yalikavak is famous for its superb sunsets and unspoilt shoreline and the surrounding sparkling clean sea is one of few remaining abodes of the endangered “Monachus Monachus” seals, and therefore a protected area. In 2002 Yalikavak Bay was awarded the “Blue Flag” for its clean waters.
Until a few years ago, the town was a small fishing village and you can still feel the rural atmosphere despite the modern facilities.
The centre of Yalikavak is traffic-free and has some pedestrians shopping streets. The famous fish restaurants and sophisticated bars and cafes are located along the harbour and the beach. A short walk from the centre you can find Yalikavak’s grocery shops, supermarket, post office and banks, and the weekly market is worth seeing for shopping or just for inspiration.
In 2004 Yalikavak got its own modern marina with marine facilities, culture centre, supermarket, housing and shopping street. The shops are exclusive and bear the stamp of developing town which are visited by exclusive clientele in the summer months.
